Sargon V for Mac is a strong chess program, but many people would prefer more conventional graphics. Here is a solution! See the "Sargon old vs. new" Teachtext file for a "before and after" picture.
This archive includes 2D board and piece files in the style used in chess books and magazines since at least the 1940s.
To use this: replace the "b&w graphics" folder that came with Sargon V with the same folder from this archive.
[NOTE: make sure you have a backup of your original files. I make no guarantees for this software.]
Technical notes: These files were created by editing the b&w board and piece files. The pieces were hand drawn in ResEdit, the board was edited in GraphicConverter. Note that the pieces are stored as "cicns". The cicn masks were made 1 pixel wider than the pieces themselves to give a 1-pixel white border around the pieces, for clarity.
